    About This Recipe

When it comes to making cocktails, there’s no easier or simpler category than spritzes. Typically made with a short ingredient list and no special equipment, they’re ideal for weeknight entertaining.

This passion fruit and limoncello spritz recipe is no different — all you need are 5 ingredients, 5 minutes (or less), and some spritz glasses to make a supremely sippable libation everyone is sure to love. It tastes like sparkling tropical lemonade, or, in other words, heaven.

Equal parts sweet, tart, refreshing, and bubbly, this light cocktail is simply lovely. Whether you serve it up for pre-dinner happy hour or a post-meal cocktail, one thing is certain: this limoncello passion fruit spritz is good to the last drop!

    Ingredients & Substitutions

As promised, you don’t need much to make this sweet lemon passionfruit spritz. Here’s everything to grab:

    • Prosecco - Any dry or semi-dry sparkling white wine will work here.
    • Passion Fruit Simple Syrup - Homemade syrup can be made with just 3 ingredients and about 5 minutes of active time. You can also feel free to swap in your favorite store-bought syrup instead.
    • Limoncello - This sweet lemon-flavored Italian liqueur tastes like pure sunshine - the perfect addition to an Italian cocktail. Find it at well-appointed liquor stores or make your own using vodka, fresh lemons & sugar.
    • Soda Water - Club soda, sparkling mineral water, or even citrus-flavored seltzer will work!
    • Fresh Lemon & Passion Fruit Pulp - I’m a firm believer in the power of a cocktail garnish to elevate any happy hour. Fresh lemon wheels or lemon slices and a dollop of fresh passion fruit pulp give this spritzer a bright and sunny disposition. In a pinch, you could use an orange slice for garnish with some lime juice!

    Equipment

Perhaps the best part about this passion fruit spritz is that you don’t need ANY special equipment to make it! That said, I do recommend using:

    • Cocktail Glasses - Ever so elegant, there’s nothing quite like a wide mouth old fashioned glass, wine glass or a tall, slender Collins glass for building a perfect spritz.
    • Reusable Straws - Protect your teeth from the clink and chill of ice while protecting our oceans from single-use plastic waste.

How To Make A Passion Fruit Limoncello Spritz

Making this passion fruit drink couldn’t be easier. Here’s how it’s done:

Step 1: Pour the following ingredients over ice - prosecco, Passion Fruit Simple Syrup, Limoncello, Splash of Soda Water.

Step 2: Garnish with lemon wheel and passion fruit pulp.

    Step 3: Serve immediately. Enjoy!

    Optional Variations

While I’m a big fan of this limoncello passion fruit spritzer, there is always room for customization. Here are a couple of variations to consider:

    • Lemon Passion Fruit Mocktail - Don’t forget the sober-curious or designated drivers! Swap in lemonade and sparkling lemonade or lemon-lime soda for the prosecco and limoncello.
    • Extra Boozy Spritz - Had a rough day? Consider adding 1.25 ounces of vodka or botanical gin to your spritzer for an added relaxation boost.

    Expert Tips

    • Start with cold ingredients. Spritzes should be ice cold, so starting with chilled liqueur, sparkling wine, soda, and syrup ensures that your drink will be chilly without getting overly diluted from the ice.
    • Use filtered water for your ice. This will ensure the best, cleanest flavors for your cocktail.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of alcohol is in Limoncello?

Neutral-flavored alcohol like vodka is the most common base for this sweet lemon liqueur - you can make your own limoncello with vodka and lemons! Homemade limoncello is used in all kinds of cocktails including the limoncello martini!

What makes a drink a “spritz?”

Spritzes are made with sparkling wine, some kind of liqueur, and sparkling water and are typically served over ice.
