- ½ teaspoon Cherry wood for food smoker/smoking gun
- 2 oz Whiskey of choice
- 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup
- 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
- Orange twist or maraschino cherry for garnish
- Ice
Add smoke using a smoking gun into your serving glass and cover with a dome or large glass to seal in the smoke or a smoking top - I use a smoking food gun with cherry wood for this stage!
½ teaspoon Cherry wood
Add bourbon, simple syrup & bitters into a mixing glass with ice. Using a bar spoon, stir gently for 30 seconds until the liquid is chilled.
2 oz Whiskey of choice, 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup, 3 dashes Angostura Bitters, Ice
Pour the old-fashioned into the smoked serving glass without ice & garnish. Again, add smoke into the glass, then cover. I like to add more smoke by lifting the dome or larger covering glass slightly and allowing the smoke to fill the covered container. Allow the smoke to infuse for 2-3 minutes before serving!

Expert Tips
Here are some expert tips to ensure your Smoked Old Fashioned becomes the stuff of legends:
- Choose the Right Wood. The type of wood you use for smoking can greatly influence the flavor of your cocktail. Fruitwoods like apple or cherry impart a delicate sweetness, while oak or hickory can bring in a more robust smokiness. Experiment with different wood types to find the one that complements your chosen whiskey.
- Balancing Act. Remember, a Smoked Old Fashioned is all about balance. The smokiness should enhance, not overpower, the drink. So, go easy on the smoking process — a little smoke can go a long way!
- Stir, Don’t Shake. Stirring is your best friend when it comes to mixing the ingredients. Aim for a smooth, seamless blend without agitating the ice too much. This will ensure a perfectly balanced drink without too much dilution.
