Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350F.
  • Place the cubed pieces of brioche onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Slide the baking sheet in the preheated oven and toast for 5 minutes before removing from the oven and cooling.
5 cups Brioche Bread 1 Inch Cubes
  • Whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, spices, kosher salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.
1 ¾ Cups Milk, 3 Eggs, 1 ½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract, 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon, ½ teaspoon Allspice, ¼ teaspoon Nutmeg, ⅓ teaspoon Kosher Salt, ⅓ cup Granulated Sugar
  • Place the toasted bread into a greased 9x9 casserole dish. Pour the milk mixture into the casserole dish on top of the bread and mix everything together so the cubes are evenly soaked with the custard.
  • Place the casserole dish into the preheated oven for 25-27 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the casserole to cool for 15 minutes before dusting with powdered sugar. Cut into 3x3 inch slices and drizzle caramel sauce or maple syrup on top with a touch of whipped cream and enjoy!

Notes

How should I store leftovers?
Just pop that delicious French toast casserole into an airtight container or cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then, store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. When you're craving a slice, either warm it up in the oven or microwave.
Expert Tips:

  • Make Ahead Magic - Feel free to stop after step 4, then cover the baking dish with foil and refrigerate the brioche french toast casserole overnight. In the morning, preheat the oven, uncover the casserole, then bake and serve!
  • Don’t Skip Toasting - You need to dry out the brioche first so it can suck up all the custardy goodness.
  • Keep an Eye on Oven Time - Remember, ovens can vary. You're aiming for a golden brown top and a set (but still slightly jiggly) center. If the top browns too quickly, cover it lightly with aluminum foil and continue baking.
  • Let It Rest - It might be hard to resist diving right in, but letting your casserole rest for about 10 minutes after taking it out of the oven will help it set a bit more and make serving easier.
