This matcha-infused cold foam is my new go-to for upgrading my morning coffee. Matcha has always been a go-to of mine since my 3AM shifts at the bakery as a pastry chef. Caffeine was a need, not a want—but I also craved something smooth, creamy, and just a little bit special to make those early mornings feel a little more indulgent. This matcha cold foam would have been perfect during the spring and summer months working in a hot kitchen!

It’s luscious yet light, adding just the right touch of creaminess without overpowering the boldness of a matcha soda or matcha latte. Plus, it’s ridiculously easy to make—just a quick froth and you’re done! Whether you're a matcha lover or just looking to jazz up your daily iced almond milk latte, this is a must-try.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Creamy & Frothy Perfection – Light, airy, and ultra-smooth, this foam melts beautifully into an iced matcha or an iced cold brew.
    • A Matcha Lover’s Dream – Just the right amount of matcha flavor to complement, not overpower.
    • Easy & Quick – Made in one minute with just a milk frother!
    • Versatile – Use it on cold brew, iced lattes, and matcha-based drinks.

How to Make Matcha Cold Foam - Step by Step

    1. Combine Ingredients – In a small pitcher or tall-sided container, mix the heavy cream, milk, matcha powder, and vanilla syrup.

      2. Froth It Up – Use a handheld milk frother, moving it around the bottom, top, and sides, until the mixture becomes thick and foamy (about 1 minute).

      Pouring cream into a bowl.
Whisking cream, milk and matcha together in a bowl.

      3. Serve Over Iced Beverage – Fill a glass with ice and cold brew coffee or make an iced matcha, then pour the matcha cold foam over the top.

      4. Sip & Enjoy – The foam will slowly blend into the drink, creating the perfect creamy sip!

Matcha-Making Tips for the Best Cold Foam

      • Use High-Quality Matcha: Since matcha is the star flavor, go for a vibrant, bright green ceremonial-grade matcha—it’ll have a smoother taste and won’t be bitter. I love using Meiko from Matchaeologist or Sayaka from Ippudo Tea!
      • Sift Your Matcha: To avoid clumps in your foam, sift the matcha before mixing it with the cream. This helps create an ultra-smooth consistency.
      • Adjust the Sweetness: Vanilla syrup adds a lovely sweetness, but feel free to adjust to taste—use less for a more subtle sweetness or swap for maple syrup for a twist!

How to Store Matcha Cold Foam

If you have extra matcha cold foam, good news—you can store it for later! While it’s best enjoyed fresh for the fluffiest texture, here’s how to keep it for future use:

      • Refrigerate – Transfer the cold foam to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days.
      • Re-froth Before Serving – The foam may lose some of its airy texture over time, so give it a quick whisk or froth with a milk frother before using.
      • Avoid Freezing – Since heavy cream and milk don’t freeze well once frothed, freezing isn’t recommended.

For the freshest, creamiest cold foam, I recommend making it right before serving—but if you need to prep ahead, this method will help keep it light and delicious!

How to Customize Your Matcha Cold Foam

Want to switch things up? Here are some fun ways to tweak this recipe:

      • Make It Lighter – Swap the heavy cream for half-and-half or just use more milk for a thinner foam.
      • Go Dairy-Free – Use coconut cream or oat milk for a plant-based alternative.
      • Extra Flavor Boost – Add a splash of almond or coconut extract for extra depth.
      • Iced Latte Version – Instead of matcha, pour this foam over an iced coffee!

      Variations
The best part about making your own matcha cold form is you can make it exactly to spec without paying any extra surcharges. How great is that?!? Here are a few ways to customize this recipe to your needs:
      • Use a different flavor syrup to flavor your sweet cream. Feel free to get whimsical with it!
      • Make it vegan by swapping in coconut cream and the non-dairy milk of your choice.
