Keep your cool this summer with my deliciously flavorful Coffee Ice Cubes! These delightful cold brew coffee cubes are the best way to keep all your favorite coffee drinks and caffeinated cocktails cold without diluting the flavor.
Summer is upon us, which means I’ll only be drinking iced coffees until the temps drop. 🥵 From my citrusy iced yuzu coffee soda and bold iced americano to homemade Starbucks drinks like my salted caramel cold foam, caramel macchiatos and brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso, there’s no shortage of chilly delights to choose from!
BUT, rather than let my favorite caffeinated bevvies get watered down with regular ice cubes (TBH, I’m kinda worried about the Starbucks switch to nugget ice for precisely this reason), I’ve been making coffee ice cubes! Honestly, friends, this is the absolute best, most brilliant way to keep all your coffee shop favorites nice and frosty while keeping the flavor on point as the ice melts. And it’s so dang easy to do, a great way to use your leftover coffee and transform it into a perfectly cold drink!

🍴Ingredients
These frosty little cubes of frozen coffee require just one basic ingredient. Bet you can guess what it is!
- Cold Brew - I personally like using cold brew coffee since it’s already chilled and ready to freeze, but you’re welcome to use any variety of coffee you prefer. French press? Sure! Percolator? Yup! Espresso ice cubes? Why not?!
Optional Ingredients for Serving
- Milk of Choice - Use your favorite milk here, such as almond milk, oat milk, or whole milk.
- Vanilla Bean Simple Syrup - Or the sweetener of your choice. Maple syrup, demerrara syrup, brown sugar syrup - it's up to you1
- Caramel - A drizzle of caramel sauce would be great addition for making an iced caramel latte!
- Sweet Cream
- Cold Foam
⏲️ Substitutions & Variations
While plain coffee-flavored ice cubes are a great starting point, there are tons of ways to make your own custom ice cubes to suit whatever drink you’re scheming. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Coffee & Chocolate Ice Cubes - If mocha-flavored drinks are your jam, make the ice cubes to match! Drizzle in some chocolate syrup or add your favorite hot chocolate mix into the coffee, stir until dissolved, then freeze as directed.
- Coffee & Milk Ice Cubes - If Renée from Coffee & Cigarettes feels relatable, make sure your iced coffee doesn’t suffer the same fate! Mix up coffee and your choice of milk or creamer to your particular specifications before freezing into cubes. As they melt, your cold brew will keep the same color and temp, so it stays just right.
- Coffee & Mint Ice Cubes - Add some fresh sprigs of mint to the ice cube tray before pouring in the cold brew and freezing. Use these minty-infused ice cubes to freshen up your Espresso Tonics, or just to add a bit of freshness to your favorite drinks.

👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Invest in a few ice cube trays. Keep one specifically for making flavored ice cubes (like these coffee cubes), one for plain ice, and one for freezing small amounts of savory items like pesto or soup. I use a variety of silicone ice tray molds that I've added to my storefront here!
- Opt for silicone ice cube trays. They’re way easier to get ice out of.
- Once your coffee ice is frozen solid, transfer the cubes to a freezer-safe bag or container. The longer the cubes stay in the mold, the harder they are to get out. Also, it’s always nice to have a clean tray on hand in case you have extra coffee to freeze!

Generally speaking, they taste best when used within 2 weeks. That said, they can last upwards of a month or two if they’re stored properly! I like to make a big batch of frozen coffee cubes and place them in a freezer bag - then on a hot day I can cool off with one of my iced coffee recipes!
