Don’t you just love caramel? I don’t like to play favorites, but this one flavor can MacGyver itself into dozens of delightful applications. Let’s start with the basics: there’s caramel sauce and honey caramel sauce (both of which can be salted for a fun twist) and caramel candies.

And, once you have your caramel sauce (or a thinner caramel-infused simple syrup?!?) made, a whole world of flavor is right at your fingertips. It’s honestly the best thing that could ever happen to your homemade coffee game. Make your own Starbucks caramel macchiato, or top your cold brew with caramel cold foam, or add this whipped caramel cream to any coffee drink.

But why stop there? Drizzle warm caramel sauce over your favorite chocolate brownie ice cream or chill it till it’s firm enough to pipe onto cookies. Whip up a batch of salted caramel buttercream to frost your favorite cakes and cupcakes or to stuff French macarons.

Give your favorite childhood snacks a gourmet glow-up with salted caramel rice krispie treats, chocolate caramel rice krispie treats, or triple chocolate caramel brownies. What I’m trying to say is that caramel is like a magical key, unlocking layers of deep, golden sweetness in every dish it graces.

What I’m trying to say is that caramel is a magical key that unlocks layers of deep, golden sweetness in every dish it graces. And when you add it to the literal crème de la crème of dessert toppers in this caramel whipped cream recipe? It has the ability to take something from good to “Good gracious, what alchemy is THIS?!”

⭐ Why You’ll Love This Caramel-Infused Whipped Cream Recipe

    • Quick & Easy - All you need is 2 ingredients and 5 minutes to make a batch of this whipped cream caramel deliciousness.
    • Gloriously Versatile - A dollop of this heavenly dessert accessory makes pretty much everything better. Whenever you’d use regular vanilla whipped cream, try swapping in this sassy little caramel number. It’s sure to earn you rave reviews.
    • Flawless - Consider this whipped caramel cream the Mary Poppins of sweet condiments — it’s practically perfect in every way!

    🍴Ingredients

Ingredients to make caramel whipped cream in small bowls.

As promised, you don’t need much to make this easy caramel cream recipe. Here’s what to grab:

    • Heavy Cream - With a milk fat percentage that ranges from 30-36%, heavy cream (a.k.a. double cream) is a tad richer than regular whipping cream. The added benefit of the extra fat is that your stiff peaks will be a bit sturdier. As a result, you can make your whip up to 12 hours in advance.
    • Caramel - While I’m partial to my 3-ingredient homemade caramel sauce, you’re welcome to use your favorite store-bought version as a shortcut. (To make the homemade stuff, grab sugar, unsalted butter, and more cream.)

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    ⏲️ Substitutions & Variations

    • Salted Caramel Whipped Cream - Simply swap in salted caramel sauce, or add __ teaspoon of kosher salt to the mix.
    • Dairy-Free/Vegan Caramel Whipped Cream - Use either pure coconut cream or vegan whipped cream and opt for a vegan caramel sauce.
    • Dispenser-Style - Take a page from my whipped cream dispenser recipe and swap in caramel simple syrup, for the caramel sauce.

This recipe has not been tested with other substitutions or variations. If you replace or add any ingredients, please let us know how it turned out in the comments below!

📖 How to Make Caramel-Flavored Whipped Cream: Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Whip Cream. Start by whipping the heavy cream in a large bowl with a hand-held electric mixer or stand mixer on medium speed. Keep whipping until it begins to thicken to soft peaks, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step 2: Add the Caramel sauce and continue to whip on medium speed until the cream thickens and forms stiff peaks.

Step 3: Serve & Enjoy!  You can use caramel whipped cream right away, or keep it in the fridge for later use, where it will stay good for about 12 hours.

    👩🏻‍🍳 Expert Tips

    • Start Cold - If possible, chill your mixing bowl and beaters before you start, and make sure your cream is cold from the fridge. Why? Cold temps help the fat solidify, which helps the cream to hold all the air you’re whipping in. Your caramel sauce doesn’t have to be AS cold, but should be no warmer than room temperature.
    • Make-Ahead - If you opt to make this whipped caramel cream recipe ahead of time, note that it will start to deflate around the 12-hour mark. If you have leftovers that have fallen, don’t despair! All you need to do is re-whip it.

    💭 Recipe FAQs

Can you add caramel to whipped cream?

You sure can! Use this caramel whipped cream recipe to ensure your ratios are correct so your whipped cream comes out perfectly.

How should I store caramel whipped cream?

Whipped cream is one of those lovely things in life that is fleeting. While you can cover and refrigerate any leftovers, if you keep caramel whipped cream for longer than about 12 hours, you’ll likely need to whip it again. Also, cream loves to suck up fridge flavors, so make sure you store it in an airtight container. Caramel cream is an awesome combo. Caramel onion cream? Decidedly less awesome.

What’s the best way to make whipped cream?

I personally prefer to get a little electrical assistance in the form of a hand- or stand-mixer. That said, you can whisk your way to loveliness, but prepare to break a sweat. If you’re going old-school, make sure to use the side-to-side whisking technique to make it as easy as humanly possible. 💪

How can you make homemade whipped cream with just a few ingredients?

Why, by using this caramel whipped cream recipe, of course! It only takes 2 ingredients. You can also try my 2-ingredient Starbucks whipped cream, or my 3-ingredient recipes for alcohol-infused whipped cream or Isi whipped cream.

I overwhipped my whipped cream and now it’s butter — is there a way to make it go back to being cream?

Sadly, no. BUT, you could do a lot worse than caramel-flavored butter and caramel-flavored buttermilk!

How can I make my whipped cream lighter and fluffier?

For this caramel whipped cream, I recommend using heavy cream to hold all the caramel in stasis. That said, using slightly lighter whipping cream will give you a lighter, fluffier traditional whipped cream.
