Delightfully effervescent and pretty in pink, my Grapefruit Gin Cocktail is bright, citrusy, and perfect for leisurely sipping. Made with just 4 ingredients in all of 3 minutes, it’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to shake off a bad day and and the perfect way to slip into Happy Hour.
⭐ Why You’ll Love This Recipe
My grapefruit gin cocktail is essentially a pink gin fizz made with brown sugar simple syrup and bittersweet grapefruit. It’s lightly bubbly, perfectly potent, and filled with fresh acidity. In short, it’s an utter delight.
When you’re in need of a quick tonic to enjoy, this is it. Unlike some other gin fizz drinks, this easy gin cocktail is made without any egg whites. That means no separating eggs, no making adjustments for plant-based friends, and no fuss stands between you and sweet, boozy deliciousness.
Aside from being simply gorgeous in a glass and equally tasty on the tongue, this pink grapefruit gin cocktail is made with just 4 easy-to-find ingredients using nothing more than a cocktail shaker (or mason jar). It couldn’t be simpler!
🍴Ingredients
As promised, my gin delicious cocktail with grapefruit doesn’t require anything super fancy. Here’s a list of simple ingredients to grab:
- Brown Sugar Syrup - Simply heat equal parts of water & brown sugar until the sugar dissolves. As a bonus, it’s delicious on your morning bowl of oatmeal, drizzled over a stack of flapjacks, or stirred into your favorite coffee drinks. Pro Tip: Once made, keep it in a squeeze bottle in the fridge for up to 14 days.
- Gin - While any nice gin will do the trick, I’m partial to the gorgeously hued Empress 1908 Gin that is steeped with butterfly pea blossoms. Not only is it a tasty, botanical-style gin, but when it comes into contact with acid (e.g. your grapefruit juice), the color changes to a lovely magenta hue. Use it to make a festive Empress Gin & Tonic, an LA Sour or a Blood Orange Sour!
- Grapefruit Juice - If possible, freshly squeezed citrus juice will make a big difference in flavor. If not, opt for a good quality brand like Natalie’s for the best results.
- Grapefruit Sparkling Water - Double down on the citrusy notes of this gin and grapefruit cocktail by opting for a grapefruit-flavored seltzer water. You’re also welcome to swap in any other citrus-flavored seltzer, soda water or plain sparkling mineral water if you wish.
- Ice - While not *technically* an ingredient, you’ll still need it. Be sure to use ice made from filtered water for the freshest flavors.
- Grapefruit Slice - I always say that adding a garnish is the simplest way to turn Happy Hour at home into a real experience. If you’re using fresh grapefruit juice as recommended, just shave off a few slices or a citrus peel before you squeeze!
⚒️ Equipment
Playing mixologist can sometimes come with a bulky equipment list. Not so with this grapefruit juice cocktail! Here’s everything you’ll need to make this delicious recipe:
- Cocktail Shaker - If you don’t have one on hand, you can easily use a large mason jar with a tight-fitting lid.
- Coupe Glass - Any stemmed glassware like a martini glass will work, but I love the old-timey charm of a coupe for this grapefruit gin spritz as the official cocktail glass.
📖 Step by Step Instructions
Making this bright pink gin cocktail is a snap. Here’s how it’s done:
Step 1: Shake. Add all the ingredients besides the sparkling water into a shaker and shake with ice cubes until chilled.
Step 2: Strain into your glass, top with sparkling water, and garnish with a slice of grapefruit. Chin chin!
⏲️ Substitutions & Variations
While I simply love this grapefruit gin fizz, I realize that taste is entirely subjective. Feel free to make any swaps that will increase your enjoyment of this tasty libation! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Swap in vodka. If you’re not much of a gin drinker, switching to vodka is a smart move for this grapefruit gin fizz cocktai
- Try a different citrus. If grapefruit isn’t your jam, try sweeter tangerine, clementine, orange, tangelo, or pomelo juice instead.
- Use mineral water with grapefruit bitters to make your own DIY grapefruit La Croix.
- Sweeten it up by using lemon-lime or grapefruit soda to minimize some of the bitterness of the grapefruit.
👩🏻🍳 Expert Tips
- Shake vigorously to aerate, but be careful not to dilute. You’re aiming for about 30-45 seconds of hard shaking before you strain.
- Use high-quality ingredients. Use fresh grapefruit juice and the best gin within your budget.
