Sweet, floral, and effervescent, my Violet & St Germain Spritz is flavored with delicate elderflower liqueur and creme de violette, resulting in a cocktail that tastes like the embodiment of spring. With just 4 ingredients, 3 minutes, and zero fancy cocktail equipment necessary, this light and refreshing adult beverage is my current happy hour obsession.

    About This Recipe

With spring in full bloom, I’m having a real moment with flowers. There are bud vases and mason jars overflowing with dainty wildflowers, colorful tulips, and cheerful daffodils all over our apartment.

This deliciously floral Violet & St Germain Spritz recipe was the result of my blossom infatuation. Made with sparkling wine, equal parts elderflower and violet liqueurs, and a splash of soda water, these delightful cocktails taste like diving into a Klimt or Monet still-life. Never tried a violet liqueur recipe before? Well the time is now!

While they have enough sauce in them to provide a pleasant buzz, these elderflower spritzers are low enough ABV that you can definitely reach for a second without fearing the next morning. They also take just a few minutes to throw together, meaning flower-filled festivities are never far from reach!

    Ingredients & Equipment

One of the best things about this simply elegant elderflower spritz recipe is how little you need to make it a reality. Here’s what you’ll need:

    • St Germain - Any kind of elderflower liquor will do the trick, but St Germain is my favorite. It also makes appearances in my Pear Quince & Elderflower Sour and Lavender Lemon Gin Sour, so you can rest assured it will get used.
    • Violet Liqueur - Crème de Violette is a gorgeous addition to any bar cart. Not only is the color stunning, but it is also a necessary component for one of my favorite classic cocktails: the Aviation.
    • Prosecco - Any dry, sparkling wine will do here. I usually reach for prosecco because the price point is more my speed, but feel free to swap in cava or splurge on champagne if you prefer.
    • Sparkling Water - Any sparkling mineral water (like Topo Chico) would be my first choice here, but club soda will do in a pinch.
    • Ice - Be sure to use filtered water for making your ice to keep the flavors crisp and clean.
    • Floral Garnish - Edible flowers are one of my greatest joys! Try adorable chamomile, sweet honeysuckle, stalks of lavender, sugared flowers, lilac blossoms or even candied rose petals to bring life and color to these dainty drinks.
    • Pretty Glasses - Drinking a fancy cocktail out of a pretty glass is the quickest way to transport me far from work and deep into my happy place.

How To Make Violet Elderflower Spritzes

Friends, cocktails don’t get any easier than this St Germain Spritz: Simply combine all the ingredients over ice and serve. Cheers!

    Optional Variations

It’s hard to improve on the perfection of this St Germain Spritz, but I welcome you to try. Here are the first ideas that come to mind:

    • Swap in another floral liqueur for either St Germain or violet liqueur, like rose or jasmine.
    • Make a simple violet-elderflower mimosa by skipping the ice and sparkling water.

    Expert Tips

    • Invest in a champagne stopper. If you love sparkling wine, there isn’t a single better $14 purchase I can recommend!
    • Go nuts with your garnish. The easiest way to make happy hour at home feel as fancy as a night on the town? Add garnishes to your drinks!
    • Keep your bubbles on ice. The ideal temperature for sparkling wine is 40-50F.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is St Germain good for?

Aside from this elderflower spritz, St Germain goes beautifully in everything from sour cocktails to margaritas (as a replacement for orange liqueur)! It plays well with every spirit I can think of, including gin, vodka, whisky, and tequila, as well as white and sparkling wines.

Can I make this a pitcher drink?

Because you’re adding both bubbly prosecco and sparkling water, I suggest making these spritzes to order unless everyone will be serving themselves rather quickly.

Hi! Where can I find those glasses? Or do you have a picture of the glass when it’s empty so I can search online? Greetings Julia
