    About This Recipe

Despite not having any kiddos, I’ve always been a fan of back-to-school time. Who doesn’t love a bevy of new colorful pens and freshly sharpened pencils, adorable notebooks, and the promise of fall right around the corner? Since we’re quickly approaching the new school year, I thought it would be fun to create an adult beverage to celebrate. Enter my PB&J sandwich-inspired Peanut Butter and Jelly drink.

This peanut butter whiskey recipe is made using Skrewball Whiskey, which is arguably the best peanut butter whiskey on the market, plus my homemade brown sugar syrup and raspberry liqueur. These three simple ingredients combine to create a cocktail that evokes serious cafeteria vibes in the best possible way.

Despite tasting like a childhood favorite with the subtle bite of booze behind it, this PB&J martini looks totally grown up when served in a gorgeous coupe glass. Serve these peanut butter whiskey drinks at your next party and bask in the gleeful glow of your friends’ faces!

    Ingredients & Substitutions

As promised, this PB&J cocktail doesn’t require a whole lot. Here’s what you’ll need:

    • Brown Sugar Simple Syrup - Made with just brown sugar and water, this surprisingly complex simple syrup will add tons of caramelly flavor to anything you mix up.
    • Peanut Butter Whiskey - While there are several on the market, I’m partial to making Skrewball whiskey drinks. Once you taste it, you’ll see why. It’s surprisingly peant buttery!
    • Raspberry Liqueur - Chambord is a classic and looks gorgeous on a bar cart, but any raspberry (or other fruit-flavored) liqueur will do.

    Equipment

Making this simple peanut butter whiskey drink recipe is a snap. Here’s everything you need to make it happen:

    • Mixing Glass - Unlike some other cocktails that benefit from a strong shake in a tin, this Skrewball peanut butter whiskey recipe is better off stirred. Why? Well, shaking helps to both dilute and aerate drinks, giving them an almost fluffy mouthfeel. By stirring, we’re chilling the cocktail without adding extra shards of ice, keeping the rich peanut butter and bright raspberry flavors front and center.
    • Cocktail Spoon - Sure, you can use any long utensil you want, but a proper bar spoon is an essential piece of equipment in my book. Don’t take my word for it — even Taste of Home agrees.
    • Coupe Glasses - Any stemmed cocktail glass will work, but I love the old-timey vibe of coupe glasses.
    • Cocktail Sticks - The best way to make happy hour at home feel as fancy as a night on the town is by garnishing your drinks properly. Cocktail sticks make it a breeze! Plus, they double as toothpicks so you can serve up my brown butter popcorn on the side without fear of kernels getting stuck where they don’t belong.

How To Make Peanut Butter & Jelly Cocktails

Making my PBJ-inspired peanut butter whiskey cocktail is simple as can be. Here’s how it’s done:

Step 1: Combine. Add peanut butter whiskey, raspberry liqueur, and brown sugar simple syrup into a mixing glass with ice.

Step 2: Stir and Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a raspberry on a cocktail stick. Enjoy!

    Optional Variations

While these Skrewball cocktails are pretty delightful all on their own, there’s always room for customization. Here are a few variations worth trying:

    • Add a salted (or salty cinnamon sugar?!?) rim for added flavor.
    • Swap in a different liqueur for slightly different peanut butter whiskey recipes. Try coffee or chocolate liqueur, apple or pear brandy, vanilla vodka, banana liqueur, Irish cream, RumChata, or cinnamon whiskey instead of Chambord.
    • Serve it as a PB&J shot.

    Expert Tips

    • Chill your glasses ahead of time to keep your PBJ cocktails nice and cold.
    • Use high-quality ingredients. With such a simple recipe, each ingredient will shine through, so make sure they’re all tasty!
    • Make sure to taste as you go, adjusting the recipe to your needs.
    • Use filtered water to make your ice so no tap flavors pollute it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does peanut butter whisky have real peanuts in it?

I can’t speak to all brands, but my preferred brand Skrewball does indeed use real peanuts. If you have a nut allergy in your group, this is not the drink for you.

    Can you drink Skrewball straight?

Yep! It’s sweet and peanut buttery, with an ABV of 35%. If you’re into shooters, this is a good one. For an even tastier experience, rim your shot glass with a bit of salt!

Should peanut butter whiskey be refrigerated?

You don’t need to, unless you like your whiskey cold.
