⭐ Why You’ll Love This Recipe
I don’t know if you know this about me, but I LOVE to drink tasty things — All. Day. Long.
I might start my day with a sweet caffeinated beverage or stick to a bright smoothie, then later in the afternoon I’ll reach for an herbal tea or mocktail to help me finish the day strong. When the clock (finally!) strikes 5, chances are I’ll be shaking up a cocktail with sweet and sour mix for Calvin and I to celebrate a productive day.
Needless to say, I’m always on the lookout for new ways to make hydrating fun and lend to a healthy immune system. A friend of mine recently introduced me to the concept of a “wellness shot” made with ginger and lemon. After one sip, I knew the revivifying sipper was going to be my next DIY project to tackle.
Aside from being bright and refreshing, this ginger shots recipe is also:
- Made With Only 5 Ingredients - One of which is water!
- Quick & Easy - You only need about 5 minutes to whip up a big ol’ batch to carry you through the day.
- Wholesome & Invigorating - Fresh fruit, natural sweetener, and filtered water are all you need to add a little zip to your sip.
- Budget-Friendly - When my friend told me she paid upwards of $2 for a single 2-ounce pineapple ginger shot, I was floored. Rather than overpaying for a store-bought drink — that comes in single-use plastic and that’s been hanging out on a shelf for who knows how long —I took matters into my own hands. This recipe requires only a few dollars worth of ingredients and yields more than 10 servings. Yay for saving $$$!
🍴Ingredients
As promised, you only need a few simple ingredients to make this recipe for pineapple lemon ginger shots:
- Ginger - Fresh ginger root is super inexpensive and contributes lots of flavor to this homemade juice. Best of all, you don’t even have to peel it, so there’s almost no prep work involved.
- Pineapple Juice - I used canned pineapple juice for this recipe, but feel free to swap in fresh pineapple juice or bottled juice instead.
- Lemon - Fresh lemon juice tastes far superior to the bottled kind. To get the most juice from your fruit, give it a firm roll on the countertop for 10-15 seconds before slicing it open. You're welcome to use a little bit of lime juice if you prefer!
- Maple Syrup - A touch of sweetness helps to balance the acidity of the lemon juice and the tongue-tingling spice from the ginger. You’re welcome to swap in agave nectar, honey, or any other liquid sweetener of your choice.
- Water - If possible, use filtered water for the best flavor.
⏲️ Substitutions & Variations
- Spicy - A great thing to try would be to add a few pinches of cayenne pepper to make a homemade lemon ginger cayenne shot or a spicy lemonade.
- Anti-Inflammatory - Adding a few pinches of ground turmeric or a few inches of fresh turmeric root to the blender with the ginger and water is a great way to make a lemon ginger turmeric shot.
- Extra Refreshing - Pineapple cucumber lemon ginger is a lovely, spa-like combo. Feel free to either juice a cucumber like you did for the ginger, or add a few slices of cucumber into your juice to infuse it as you sip.
- Make it Sugar-Free - If you’re avoiding added sugar, swap in your favorite sugar-free sweetener like monkfruit or stevia.
- Replace the pineapple juice with an alternative fresh juice and fruit juices! Perhaps watermelon juice, orange juice, carrot juice, passion fruit juice or the green juice of your choice!

Step 1 & 2: Follow the same instructions above, as if you were making juice.
Step 3: Use only 1 part ginger juice and 1 part water or pineapple juice, then add sweetener and lemon juice to taste.
